Safe Speeds for Latin America and the Caribbean (part 2): How to Select Safe Speeds (Roads-for-Life R4L Framework)

This webinar is part of the “Webinar Series: Safe Speeds for Latin America and the Caribbean”, organized and hosted by the World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). The goal of the series was to disseminate the "Guide for Safe Speeds: Managing Traffic Speeds to Save Lives and Improve Livability” and other complimentary resources and introduce the Roads for Live (R4L) Framework for selecting and implementing safe speeds and how to identify effective solutions to support them.   

The second part of the series, “How to Select Safe Speeds (Roads-for-Life R4L Framework)”, introduced the Roads-for-Life (R4L) Framework and how to select safe speeds based on it.

The R4L Framework for selecting safe speed limits

Dr. Eva Eichinger-Vill and Blair Turner, Senior Consultants at the WB, and Siba El-Samra, Urban Mobility Manager at WRI, introduced the Roads-for-Life (R4L) Framework, its principles, and its classification of urban and rural roads. They also shared the suggested safe speed limits for each type of road and gave some practical examples. 

 

Implementing Safe Speeds

Alejandro Schwedhelm, Urban Mobility Manager at WRI, shared the step-by-step process on how to select safe speed limits based on the R4L Framework and to monitor and evaluate its implementation.
